Voters in Alabama's 2nd Congressional District were sent postcards with incorrect information on polling locations ahead of the primary elections on Super Tuesday.

Incorrect Voting Instructions Sent to Thousands of Voters in Alabama's 2nd Congressional District

Thousands of voters in Alabama's newly redrawn 2nd Congressional District received incorrect voting instructions ahead of Super Tuesday. More than 6,500 voters received postcards with information intended for a different congressional district. The county took steps to address the error by sending out notices to affected voters, with 2,000 notices sent on Tuesday and an additional 4,000 on Wednesday.

James Snipes, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Registrars, confirmed that affected voters were still able to cast their votes for the correct candidates despite the misinformation. He described the incident as a "good-faith effort" and attributed the mistake to a "software glitch" that misidentified the voters' geographic region.

The 2nd Congressional District's boundaries were redrawn last year to comply with the Voting Rights Act, expanding its reach from Mobile to the state border with Georgia to ensure greater representation for the 27% Black population. The primary race, which featured 11 Democrats and seven Republicans, resulted in Democratic candidates Anthony Daniels and Shomari Figures, as well as Republican candidates Caroleene Dobson and Dick Brewbaker, securing spots in future run-off elections to determine the party candidates.
