President Biden engaged in a phone call with Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel this morning, with Vice President Harris joining the conversation. The President firmly reiterated his unwavering commitment to safeguarding Israel's security. He unequivocally denounced Iran's ballistic missile attack against Israel on October 1st, leaving no room for ambiguity in his condemnation.

Turning to the situation in Lebanon, President Biden stressed the paramount importance of a diplomatic resolution to ensure the safe return of both Lebanese and Israeli civilians to their respective homes on either side of the Blue Line. The President acknowledged Israel's inherent right to defend its citizens against Hezbollah, a group that has unleashed a barrage of thousands of missiles and rockets into Israeli territory over the past year alone. However, he emphasized the crucial need to minimize harm to civilians, particularly within the densely populated areas of Beirut.

Regarding the dire situation in Gaza, the leaders engaged in a comprehensive discussion, recognizing the urgent need to reignite diplomatic efforts to secure the release of hostages held captive by Hamas. The President also addressed the dire humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza, highlighting the imperative to restore access to the northern region, including by promptly reactivating the corridor from Jordan.

Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication in the days ahead, engaging in direct dialogue and through their national security teams, demonstrating their shared commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the region.
