Cao Yuan defended his title in the men's 10-meter platform and gave China an unprecedented sweep of the diving gold medals at the Paris Olympics.

China's diving team has done it again, sweeping all eight gold medals in the men's and women's diving events at the Paris Games. This unprecedented achievement showcases the country's dominance and reinforces its position as a diving powerhouse.

Cao Yuan, a 29-year-old diving veteran, stood tall as the linchpin of this historic feat. Entering the final diving event, the pressure was on Team China to perfect their sweep. Yang Hao, Cao's teammate, faced challenges, and Japan's Rikuto Tamai remained in contention until a disappointing dive in the next-to-last round. It was up to Cao to seal the deal.

With grace and precision, Cao executed a forward 4½ somersaults in the fifth round, securing his gold with a score of 547.50 points. This victory added to his impressive collection of four gold medals, including the springboard title in Rio 2016 and the 10-meter synchro gold in London 2012. Cao's performance mirrored the resilience and consistency that have become hallmarks of China's diving program.

Tamai, despite his misstep, demonstrated his skill by capturing silver with a score of 507.65, while Noah Williams of Britain clinched bronze with 497.35 points. Yang Hao, who had previously shone in the platform synchro event during the opening week, faced setbacks in the final, finishing last.

China's dominance in diving is unparalleled, with this being the first time a nation has claimed all eight gold medals since the diving program expanded in 2000. Their consistent excellence is underlined by their previous hauls of seven out of eight golds on three separate occasions. This perfect sweep in Paris adds another chapter to their diving supremacy.

The United States' sweep of all four golds in Helsinki 1952 now seems like a distant memory as China has firmly established its reign. Cao's gold medal performance showcased his experience and composure, as he navigated a tightly contested final to emerge victorious.

China's diving success story extends beyond just this Games, with a remarkable tally of 46 out of 56 gold medals in diving since 2000. Their Tokyo Games performance, where they fell just shy of their medal record, serves as a testament to their sustained excellence.

The contrast between the medal hauls of China and the United States is notable. China amassed 11 medals in Paris, just one shy of their record-tying total in Tokyo. On the other hand, the Americans' single medal in Paris, a silver in women's synchronized 3-meter, marks their worst performance since the 2008 Beijing Games, where they were shut out.

Over the last three Olympics, the U.S. has accumulated a total of 10 diving medals, highlighting the shifting dynamics in the sport and the emergence of new contenders. However, China's consistent performance and strategic prowess in diving remain unparalleled, solidifying their place as the sport's dominant force.
