February 17, 2023; Daytona Beach, Florida, USA – Hailie Deegan, a driver in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, may have another shot at the NASCAR Xfinity Series just weeks after ending her collaboration with AM Racing. Joe Custer from Stewart-Haas Racing has confirmed discussions with Deegan about her potential involvement in the 2025 Xfinity season. “Yes, we’ve spoken with her,” Custer stated. “She was with one of our technical partners, which presents its challenges as we consider her future. We see potential in her and want to be part of her journey, but further discussions are needed.”
Following the dissolution of her partnership with AM Racing, Deegan is actively seeking new opportunities, while Custer is in the process of filling two driver positions for the newly established Haas Factory Team in the Xfinity Series. Interest in these two slots is substantial, especially after the recent promotion of Cole Custer from the Xfinity Series to the Cup Series, as announced last Saturday.
“There is no lack of interest in the two Xfinity Series cars that Haas Factory Team will field next year,” Joe Custer remarked. “We’re getting close to announcing those drivers,” Kelly Crandall of RACER shared on X (formerly Twitter). Further reports indicated that an offer has been extended to Riley Herbst to remain in the program, although Custer mentioned that Herbst and his team are exploring all options across the sport for the upcoming year.
Hailie Deegan would certainly bring significant attention to the team, being the daughter of motorsports icon Brian Deegan with a strong off-track following. Her racing accomplishments include notable success in the ARCA Menards Series West, where she achieved three victories and 23 top-10 finishes. However, she has yet to secure a win in either the Craftsman Truck Series or the Xfinity Series at higher levels.
Despite the possibilities ahead, at least one veteran NASCAR driver suggests that finding another major opportunity for Deegan, like one of the two Xfinity Series seats with Haas Factory Team, could prove challenging. “I think it’s gonna be tough to get another chance,” said Kevin Harvick. “That’s gonna be the hard part.”
