Jam Master Jay: Godson and Childhood Friend Found Guilty of Run-DMC Star's Murder
In a recent trial in New York City, Karl Jordan Jr, 40, and Ronald Washington, 59, have been convicted of the murder of Jam Master Jay, a member of the iconic hip-hop group Run-DMC. The trial revealed that Jordan and Washington targeted the musician at his recording studio in Queens over two decades ago, after feeling betrayed in a drug deal.
Jam Master Jay, whose real name was Jason Mizell, was 37 years old when he was fatally shot in the head on October 30, 2002. As a founding member of Run-DMC, Mizell played a significant role in shaping the hip-hop genre with hits like "It's Tricky," "It's Like That," and the Aerosmith collaboration "Walk This Way." However, as the group's popularity declined, Mizell became involved in cocaine trafficking.
According to prosecutors, Jordan and Washington believed they would be part of a drug deal worth nearly $200,000, but were excluded from it, leading to their anger and desire for revenge. The murder remained unsolved for years until the pair were finally charged in 2020.
It is important to note that another individual, Jay Bryant, will face a separate trial in 2026. He stands accused of entering Mizell's studio through the front door and allowing Jordan and Washington access through a locked back fire exit.
The murder of Jam Master Jay shocked the music world back in 2002, and now, with the conviction of his godson and childhood friend, justice has been served. Jordan and Washington now face a sentence of 20 years to life in prison for their involvement in this tragic crime.
