Local perks for National Ice Cream Day
KXAN Austin
Sunday is National Ice Cream Day, and what better way to celebrate and cool off from the summer heat than with a delicious ice cream treat? Former President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of July as National Ice Cream Day back in 1984. Local ice cream businesses in Austin are gearing up for the occasion with special promotions and menu items. Here's a list of places to visit on Sunday to indulge in some sweet treats and join in on the festivities:
- Lick's is partnering with Tiny Pies to introduce a new flavor, Lemon Lime Meringue Pie, for National Ice Cream Day. Proceeds from every purchase of this flavor will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities chapter in Central Texas. It's their way of "paying it forward" and giving back to the community.
- Amy's Ice Creams, a beloved Texas ice cream chain, has already kicked off the celebrations by announcing a giveaway on their social media pages. They are offering a chance to win a free three-month subscription to their Sweet Flex Box. Head over to their social media to find out more about how to enter.
- Jo's Coffee is getting in on the action, too, with a special offer for National Ice Cream Day. They will be serving up $3 affogatos, a delightful Italian dessert that combines a scoop of ice cream with hot espresso. It's the perfect pick-me-up treat!
- Uncle Nicky's Italian eatery is celebrating by offering their famous Italian custard for just $2 per cup. Indulge in classic flavors like strawberry, espresso, lemon, and pistachio.
- Dairy Queen, the beloved multinational fast-food chain, is showing its love for ice cream enthusiasts by offering exclusive perks to its mobile app members. With a DQ Texas app purchase, members can enjoy a free Dilly Bar, made with DQ's signature vanilla soft serve.
- The Austin Museum of Ice Cream is taking its celebrations to the next level by partnering with Blue Bell Creameries, a Texas original. On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., keep an eye out for a bright pink ice cream truck in front of Music Lane at 1011 S. Congress Ave., Bldg. 1, Ste. 120. They will be giving away free vanilla and chocolate ice cream cups, courtesy of Blue Bell.
