Travel disruptions mounted in the U.S. on Sunday as Tropical Storm Debby neared Florida.

Flight cancellations soared across the United States on Sunday as Tropical Storm Debby edged closer to Florida. With the storm expected to make landfall as a hurricane on Monday, airlines scrambled to adjust schedules and travelers faced disruptions. As of noon ET, the flight tracking website FlightAware reported over 1,500 cancellations and nearly 3,000 delays, with American Airlines and JetBlue scrapping 16% of their flights, the highest among major carriers.

In anticipation of the storm's impact, several airlines issued weather waivers, allowing affected passengers to change their flights without penalty. Passengers are entitled to refunds if their flights are canceled, as per the Department of Transportation rules. The cruise industry also felt the storm's impact, with Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Elation rescheduling its return to Jacksonville for Sunday instead of Monday. Royal Caribbean International's Symphony of the Seas skipped its planned stop at Port Canaveral, opting for a day at sea, while Margaritaville at Sea's Islander ship, originally set for a cruise to Key West and Cozumel, was delayed until Monday due to closed waterways. With uncertainty looming, travelers in the path of Tropical Storm Debby faced a challenging few days as they navigated changing cruise itineraries and flight schedules.
