PARIS — Forty-eight hours after helping Team USA secure a historic bronze medal in the team competition, Paul Juda and Frederick Richard placed 14th and 15th, respectively, in the individual all-around final on Wednesday night, marking their final event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Richard, 20, encountered a challenging start on the pommel horse during his first rotation, falling off the apparatus and receiving a lower score of 12.733. Despite this setback, he demonstrated resilience and performed better on the subsequent rotations, particularly on the rings and vault.

Juda, on the other hand, maintained a solid and consistent performance across all apparatuses but lacked the difficulty in his routines to contend for a medal. He expressed his delight at simply qualifying for the all-around final, considering the uncertainties he faced in the previous year regarding his Olympic team selection. The last time an American man won an all-around medal at the Olympics was in 2012 when Danell Leyva took home the bronze.

The gold medal in the men's all-around final went to Shinnosuke Oka of Japan, who scored an impressive 86.832, edging out China's Zhang Boheng and Xiao Ruoteng, who claimed silver and bronze, respectively. This victory marks the fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal for Japan in this event.

For Team USA, the focus now shifts to Stephen Nedoroscik, the sole remaining male gymnast who will compete in the pommel horse final on Saturday, aiming to add another medal to the team's tally. Meanwhile, Simone Biles and Suni Lee will represent the United States in the women's all-around final on Thursday night, with high expectations for medal-worthy performances.
