Opinion | Hillary Clinton: How Kamala Harris Can Win and Make History
I’ve been called a witch, a “nasty woman” and much worse. Harris will face unique additional challenges. But we shouldn’t be afraid.
History has its eyes on us; this is a pivotal moment for American democracy. President Biden's decision to step down from the 2024 presidential race demonstrates his unwavering patriotism and commitment to the nation's best interests. Now, it is our duty to continue his fight for the soul of our country. The upcoming 15 weeks will be unlike anything we've ever witnessed in politics, but Democrats can and must emerge victorious.
Biden's decision to prioritize the country's needs above his personal ambitions is a testament to his moral clarity and selflessness. As someone who shared his dream and had to let it go, I understand the difficulty of this choice. Elections, however, are about the future, and that future belongs to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Harris represents a breath of fresh air for American politics. She embodies the hope and unity we desperately need. She is talented, experienced, and more than capable of becoming our next president. I am confident that she can defeat Donald Trump and lead our country forward.
The contrast between Harris and Trump could not be starker. On one side, we have a convicted criminal who is obsessed with himself and determined to strip away our rights. On the other, we have a savvy former prosecutor and successful vice president who believes in America's potential for progress. Harris's unique perspective as the first Black and South Asian woman on a major party ticket adds to her appeal.
We must be prepared for the onslaught of disinformation and ugly prejudice that will undoubtedly come her way. As a strong woman in politics, I understand the challenges she will face. But we cannot let fear hold us back. Harris has what it takes to overcome these obstacles and make history.
The recent victories of the Labour Party in Britain and the left-wing coalition in France prove that swift and successful campaigns are possible. Harris must reach out to skeptical voters and mobilize young people. She can build on the strong foundation laid by the Biden-Harris administration, which oversaw America's comeback from the pandemic and economic free fall.
As vice president, Harris has been a crucial partner in creating over 15 million jobs, bringing down unemployment to a 50-year low, and tackling inflation without causing mass job losses. She has been instrumental in passing bipartisan legislation on infrastructure, clean energy, microchips, and national security. On issues like drug prices and student debt, she has delivered tangible results that have improved people's lives.
Harris's law enforcement background gives her the credibility to counter Trump's lies about crime and immigration. The Biden-Harris administration has successfully reduced the murder rate and illegal border crossings. Despite Trump's selfish sabotage of a bipartisan immigration compromise, progress is being made.
As we bid farewell to Biden's candidacy, we gain a new champion and a reinvigorated campaign. It's time to organize, mobilize, and win. Let's ensure that Harris becomes our next president and continues the fight for a better America.
