At least six people died after a gunman entered a home for the elderly in Croatia on Monday and started shooting, according to the country’s public broadcaster.

A gunman opened fire at a private nursing home in Croatia, killing at least six people and injuring several others, according to the country's public broadcaster. The tragic incident occurred in the town of Daruvar, about 75 miles east of the capital, Zagreb, when a man with a firearm entered the facility and started shooting. Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) reported that five victims died immediately, while state news agency HINA reported that the gunman fled but was later arrested near a cafe. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Croatia's Prime Minister Andrej Plenković expressed his condolences on social media, saying, "We are appalled by the murder of five people in the home for the elderly... We express our condolences to the families of the victims and hope for the recovery of the wounded." He also mentioned that the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Health, and the social policy minister were traveling to Daruvar to address the situation. This senseless act of violence has shocked the nation, and the investigation is ongoing as police work to uncover the circumstances surrounding this terrible crime.
