In his speech on the final night of the Republican National Convention, Trump said he would not discuss the assassination attempt again. However, during a recent rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he broke that promise. Sporting a new, flesh-colored ear bandage, Trump claimed, “I took a bullet for democracy.” The rally had over 10,000 people in attendance and started with chants of, “fight, fight, fight,” a reference to Trump's iconic moment after the assassination attempt. Despite hopes that the near-death experience may have changed the former president's tune, his speech continued with his old-fashioned election denialism and petty insults.
