Trump Obsesses Over Kamala Harris's Appearance Again, Claiming He's "Better Looking"

Donald Trump, during a campaign rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, once again fixated on Kamala Harris's appearance. This time, he declared himself "better looking" than his Democratic rival, mocking those who call her "beautiful."

His focus: a Time magazine cover depicting Harris. Trump, insinuating the illustration made her look better than she does in reality, said, "Time magazine doesn't have a picture of [Harris]. They have this unbelievable artist drawing her and I said 'Is that Sophia Loren?' I couldn't tell."

He then took aim at Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan, who suggested in a recent op-ed that Harris's "beauty" was an advantage in the presidential election. "So I decide to go back and re-read," Trump said, "But I say that I am much better looking than her."

This elicited applause from the crowd, prompting Trump to repeat, "I'm a better looking person than Kamala."

This marks at least the fourth time Trump has referenced the Time magazine cover in speeches, interviews, or rallies, continuing his pattern of personal attacks against his political opponents. He employed a similar strategy during his campaign against President Joe Biden, frequently mentioning Biden's age and questioning his mental competency. These attacks, combined with Biden's perceived struggles during a presidential debate, resonated with some voters who shared concerns about Biden's ability to lead the country for another four years.

With Biden no longer a candidate and Harris stepping into the presidential race, Trump is having to adapt his strategy, finding new ways to criticize Harris. His attempts have included questioning Harris's race by claiming she suddenly "turned Black," branding her distinctive laugh as that of "a lunatic," and suggesting, without evidence, that Biden "hates" her. He's also made unsubstantiated claims that Harris would lead the U.S. economy into a Great Depression-style collapse or even push the world into World War III.

These repeated personal attacks against Harris, particularly focusing on her appearance, are likely to be met with criticism for their shallowness and lack of substance. It remains to be seen if this strategy will be effective in swaying voters, especially given the increasing focus on policy and substantive issues in the upcoming election.
