Former President Trump sits down with Fox News host Jesse Watters to recount the assassination attempt on his life.

On Monday, former President Trump and his running mate for the 2024 election, JD Vance, sat down for their first joint interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters. This interview came just days after an assassination attempt on Trump's life at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. During the interview, Trump revealed that embattled Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle paid him a visit following the incident. He described the meeting as pleasant and expressed his belief that someone should have ensured the roof of the building where the shooter was positioned was secure.

The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired from a rooftop approximately 130 yards away, and investigators are still trying to understand how he gained such a clear line of sight. Eyewitnesses recalled trying to alert police officers about the shooter's presence but were unable to get their attention in time. Trump expressed surprise at how close the shooter was able to get and questioned why he wasn't kept off the stage for a brief period if there were security concerns.

Trump also brought up Cheatle's mention of the roof's slope as a reason for the lack of Secret Service agents, suggesting she may have been given false information. He further questioned why he wasn't informed of any potential threats, highlighting the need for better communication and coordination to ensure his safety. Cheatle herself acknowledged the attempt on Trump's life as a significant operational failure and faced calls for her resignation from ranking members of the House Oversight Committee.

Trump commended the actions of his Secret Service agents and provided an update on his healing ear, expressing gratitude for his luck and divine protection. The interview shed light on the ongoing investigation and the security concerns surrounding the former president's rallies.
