Harris and Walz Engage with Georgia Voters on Two-Day Bus Tour

Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, embarked on a two-day bus tour through rural Georgia, aiming to shore up support in a critical battleground state. Their itinerary included stops at a high school band practice and various businesses and campaign offices.

Harris encouraged the young crowd at the band practice, commending them as the future leaders of the nation. She emphasized the importance of their generation in shaping the country's future. The Democratic ticket also met with students from Savannah State University upon their arrival in Savannah.

Strategy to Engage Rural Voters

The campaign's strategy for the bus tour centered around reaching out to voters in GOP strongholds, seeking to make inroads beyond Atlanta and its suburbs, which had previously supported Joe Biden in 2020. The events were designed to showcase not only the candidates' policy stances but also their personal qualities.

Campaign Schedule

In addition to the bus tour, Harris and Walz participated in a joint interview with CNN anchor Dana Bash, which aired on Thursday night. The Georgia trip was a makeup visit after a scheduled seven-state swing tour was disrupted by Tropical Storm Debby earlier in the month. Harris also has a campaign blitz planned for Labor Day with President Biden in Detroit and Pittsburgh.

Response to Trump's Attacks

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, a Republican, initially faced harsh criticism from former President Donald Trump at a rally in the state. Trump accused Kemp of not cooperating with his false claims of election fraud. However, Trump later changed his tone, thanking Kemp for his support. Kemp stated that the focus should be on the issues and not on the past.

Campaign Ad Targeting Trump

The Harris campaign has released a new advertisement linking Trump to the conservative "Project 2025." The ad alleges that Trump is "out for control" and aligns his statements with the plan's proposals. Project 2025 outlines conservative policy recommendations for a future Republican administration, including proposals to dismiss government employees and overturn FDA approvals of abortion medications. Trump has attempted to distance himself from the plan.
